Khmer Rouge Regime

The “Democratic Kampuchea” regime, better known as the Khmer Rouge period, lasted for nearly four years, from April 1975 until January 1979.  Cambodians call it “the regime of three years, eight months and twenty days”, as though every single moment of that period has left a permanent scar on their memories. Millions of people died through mass killings, starvation or as a result of forced labour.
